Deccan Garnet

Deccan Garnet is an environmentally friendly, hard and sub-angular abrasive. Deccan Garnet can be used in a wide variety of abrasive blasting applications, including blast rooms and shipyards. Because it is a hard and heavy abrasive, garnet can increase productivity while reducing the amount of abrasive needed.

The heavy sub-angular shaped grains with a hardness of 7 Mohs provides high impact and cutting action with low amounts of dust emitted. With less dust and improved cutting, garnet can reduce clean up and increase productivity.

Specifications

Deccan Garnet is uniform with specifications, High hardness of 8 MoH and very High specific gravity 4 gm/cc make it unique . With very low chloride content make the life of the coating at least double which in long term advantage . Deccan Garnet has almost nil free silica which made very  safe for the environment and loss on ignition as low as 0.05% gifted by nature.

Garnet Grades

  • 80 Mesh
  • 30/60 Mesh
  • 20/40 Mesh
  • 12/20 Mesh

Advantages of Deccan Garnet

  • High performance, low dust abrasive
  • Uniform and superior surface profile
  • Ideal for industrial coating work with a selection of grades to suit various applications. e.g. new steel, whip blasting, full blasting, heavy rust removal, feathering, etc.
  • Economical, single use abrasive
  • Non toxic – inert and natural, crystalline silica levels are less than 1%
  • Can also be recycled.

CONCEPT

The hardness and density of garnet combine to create a highly efficient cutting action with minimal dust emissions and confined fallout of used abrasive. The scouring action of the relatively fine grains clean out pitted areas giving the highest degree of surface cleanliness whilst producing an even textured profile of between 65 and 75 microns.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Deccan garnet is totally inert offering no danger of environmental or marine pollution.Due to the low dust levels, operator visibility is greatly improved and other trades working in close proximity remain unaffected. Quantities of used abrasive which may contain contamination removed from the substrate by the blasting process, will be dramatically reduced thus minimising waste disposal problems.

Good for delicate blast cleaning of items such as motor vehicles, engine components, boats (fiber
glass and aluminum) glass frosting and restoring stone, timber, brick, monuments etc. Reduced air pressure
advisable depending on item. Also, recommended for rapid one pass or limited recycle blast cleaning of mill
scale, light rust and weathered paint coating to SA 21/2 – SA3 Specification at full air pressure.

This is the grade most commonly preferred for general maintenance blast cleaning of painted and/ or rusted steel. The size spread provides optimum bite (cleaning rate) without producing excessive profile. Profile depth normally ranges 65 to 75 microns which is the maximum required for most industrial paints (higher profiles lead to greater paint consumption and risk of paint failure due to rogue peaks). 30/60
Mesh can be recycled several times if site conditions permit.

This coarse grade is available for removing very heavy-duty coatings/rust or where deep metal profile over 75 microns is required. It can be recycled several times. Not recommended for general maintenance blast cleaning due to excessive profile for most paints and slower ’White Metal cleaning rate.
This is the most coarse and durable Garnet abrasive. It is used for maintenance blasting and for cleaning the surface with heavy corrosion or surfaces with thick paint coatings on it. A surface profile of above 100 microns can be achieved. It can also be recycled several times. It is used to remove thickest and most adherent coatings.
